Lidl GB has launched a public consultation on updated plans for a new Lidl store on Church Road North in Wavertree.

Following feedback from the local community and consultation with a variety of construction experts, the discounter has adjusted its proposals to retain the existing Abbey Cinema building.

The significant multi-million pound investment would see the current site redeveloped into a modern Lidl store as well as retaining and renovating the façade of the picturehouse. The store would have a 1,263m2 sales area and feature Lidl’s in-store bakery and customer toilets including baby changing facilities.

If approved, the new store would create around 30 new full and part-time jobs for local people once opened. Lidl says the roles would offer one of the best wages in the industry with entry-level pay beginning at £10.10 per hour.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl GB’s regional head of property, says: “We have listened carefully to feedback from residents and stakeholder groups, and believe our proposals are the most viable option to revitalise this area for the local community.

“We are pleased to present the new plans which would not only deliver Lidl’s high quality and afforable produce to residents, but also retain and enhance the former Abbey Cinema building.
