The former bank building on the corner of Castle Street, home to failed restaurant What’s At 62 (pictured), could reopen as a late-night venue.

The short-lived restaurant, which closed last year months after it opened its doors when operator What’s Cooking entered administration, could be open to the public once again after a license application to serve alcohol until 2am was submitted. The license also covers entertainment such as live music and sports screening.

The restaurant specialised in food influenced by the American Deep South and was designed as an accompaniment to the adjacent hotel, 62 Castle Street Hotel. The application for a license has been submitted by the current owner of the hotel and includes an extension of the current license on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 2am, with a closing time of 2.30am. However, an operator has not been named for the site.

What’s Cooking, which owns a restaurant at Albert Dock, entered administration in November 2014, forcing the site to close. However, the company was saved by its original founder, Lee Brennan, who chose to buy the current Albert Dock venue.

Other license applications being considered by Liverpool City Council include a bid to allow outside seating with waterside views at Cargo near Princes Dock and the proposed Beach House restaurant at Chavasse Park, which will be operated by Living Ventures.
