Italian wine café, Veeno is planning to launch its first Liverpool venue at 46 Castle Street.

The café, which serves wines direct from a family vineyard in Italy and small plates of food, is bringing the concept from successful restaurants in Manchester, Leeds and York.

The restaurant imports all of its wines from a family vineyard, Caruso and Minini in Sicily. It also serves traditional ‘spuntini’ appetisers including house platters and a choice of cheese and cured meats.

Veeno was created by Andrea Zecchino and Nino Caruso, the fourth generation of the family to work on the vineyard in Siciliy.

According to the brand’s website: “On our last trip to Sicily our whole family was sitting in our tasting area drinking the latest batch of wines and sharing a platter of spuntini (appetisers).

“It was there and then we decided we wanted to bring this ‘aperitivo’ culture back to UK in true Italian style. Somewhere that experts and beginners could appreciate quality wine and enjoy ‘aperitivo’ the Italian tradition of tasting small plates of food with their drink in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere”

The Grade II-listed building at 46 Castle Street covers three floors and the bottom floor is currently occupied by Brook Street recruitment agency.
