Women encouraged to get on their citybikes

Women across Liverpool are being invited to use a citybike for special cycle rides around the city.

Breeze, a network set up by British Cycling to inspire more women to explore their local area by bike, has announced a new programme of group bike rides aimed at all ability levels.

Ranging from short midweek lunchtime and evening rides as well as more leisurely weekend jaunts, the Breeze bike rides all start at city centre locations near popular citybike stations.

Sara Braidwood, Breeze Champion and organiser of the Breeze rides in Liverpool, says: “Many women feel they lack the time and confidence to go on a bike ride but everyone is welcome to join us at Breeze.

“We go at a speed that suits everyone and we often start of finish at a café so everyone can have a drink and a chat as well.”

Councillor Tim Beaumont, mayoral lead for wellbeing, says: “The Breeze network is a great way to encourage more women to enjoy cycling. Anyone is welcome to join and now thanks to citybike, you don’t even need to own a bike to take part.”

The next Breeze bike ride gets underway at 5pm on 30 March in front of the Pier Head Ferry Terminal on Mann Island. The ride along the promenade will take just under two hours and there is a citybike station nearby to the starting point.

The rides are free to join and it costs from £1 per hour to hire a citybike with subscriptions available for the day, week and year.
