Preparatory works at the £1bn King Edward Triangle development site are underway, with an application submitted seeking permission to demolish a collection of unlisted buildings along the northern boundary of the eight-acre city centre plot.

Davos Property Developments Limited in conjunction with Beetham Davos Ltd want to clear four blocks of buildings on Roberts Street, and at 1 Greenock Street, 11 -14 Waterloo Road (the former Greek restaurant) and the martial arts building adjacent to the former King Edward pub site.

A separate request to Liverpool City Council for a stopping-up order is to be made for part of Roberts Street, Greenock Street and Denison Street. The combined land is required to provide a construction compound to support work on the scheme’s first tower, at the junction of Waterloo Road and Paisley Street.

A planning application was submitted in June for the 28-storey, 255-unit development and is expected to be ruled on this autumn.

Hugh Frost, chairman of Beetham, says: “We are moving at pace and have every confidence in the quality of what we will deliver. These applications keep us on track.”

Mr Frost confirmed that work remains on-going on the wider scheme’s masterplan, with ambitions for a major public consultation in due course.
