Liverpool Cruise Terminal will welcome a record breaking 54 cruise ships and more than 80,000 international visitors to the city in 2015.

The figures include the visit of new cruise lines and ships, and the spectacular visit of the Three Queens from the Cunard fleet to celebrate the cruise line’s 175th anniversary. Described as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime event’ by the cruise team, the spectacle will take place on 25 May on the River Mersey.

Other highlights of the record breaking year include the visit of the Cunard flagship, Queen Mary 2 on 4 July to re-enact the first passenger crossing of the Atlantic 175 years earlier. It will set off from Liverpool for the US to the background of a festival curated by fashion design king Wayne Hemingway. Meanwhile, the first ever ship to call at the new cruise terminal in 2007, Regent’s Seven Seas Voyager, will return to the terminal in 2015.

The expected figures for the number of cruise ships will be four more than in 2014, when 50 vessels brought 57,844 passengers to the city.

“This is very important in a competitive industry where there are no second chances and a lot of destinations are vying for cruise business.”
