A proposed 399-bedroom student apartment block in Edge Hill has been recommended for approval when it goes before planners on 23 June.

Liverpool City Council’s planning committee will decide on the future of the proposal, which would see a six-storey block comprising 73 clusters of student rooms and 25 studio apartments built on land between Chatham Place and Queensland Street in L7.

The plans include a reception and a 24-hour security office in the U-shaped block, which would also include 122 cycle spaces.

The scheme has been recommended for approval by the Head of Planning, who says: “The height, scale and design of the building would relate well to its surroundings and would be of sufficiently high quality to ensure it contributes positively to the area. The proposal will bring a vacant and unattractive site back into beneficial use.”

The application is from Queensland Place Ltd, although the director of the company, Elliot Lawless is also named as a director in developments such as student studios on Norfolk and Seymour Street on the Baltic Triangle, Heaps Rice Mill and Wolstenholme Square.

Original plans for the site outlined an eight-storey development but a further level was added in an amendment. If successful it will be the latest development catering for Liverpool’s university population, which is estimated at 70,000.
