Calls are being made for a city-wide car club scheme which could see improved access to cars for residents across Liverpool.

The motion, put forward by Councillor Tom Crone, is set to be raised today (7 April) in the city council’s regeneration, housing, and sustainability committee meeting.

The motion calls for Cllr Malcom Kennedy, the cabinet member for regeneration, transport and climate change, to investigate the ways that Liverpool City Council could implement such a scheme.

As well as reducing the need for car ownership, the scheme would aim to make the city more sustainable.

Cllr Crone, says: “This committee recognises the contribution a thriving car club could have in improving access to cars for the people of Liverpool while reducing the necessity for households to own a private motor vehicle.

“Reduced car ownership should be an aspiration of any local authority seriously envisaging a low carbon, ecologically sustainable future”.
