Grand National gets underway today

Aintree’s Grand National Festival returns today (7 April) as Grand Opening Day gets underway.

The world-famous event, which attracts more than 150,000 racegoers each year, will take place across three days.

Grand Opening Day will see the first five from the Champion Hurdle compete in a rematch in the £200,000 Grade One Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle, as well as four Grade One contests and the Crabbie’s Fox Hunters Chase over the Grand National fences.

This year, racegoers will also enjoy performances from Toploader and classical singer Laura Wright on Grand Opening Day, while Brian McFadden will DJ the after show party on the Red Rum Lawn.

The £1 million horse racing event’s current title partner Crabbie’s will scale back its involvement in 2017, with global healthcare provider Randox Health set to take the mantle and also become the official healthcare partner of The Jockey Club.
