Liverpool-filmed crime drama ‘The Five’ to air on Sky 1 this week

An original crime drama that was filmed in Liverpool is due air on Sky 1 this week.

Created by international bestselling author Harlan Coben, ‘The Five’ will premiere on the station with a double bill on 15 April from 9pm.

The 10-part series, which follows a gang of friends haunted by the disappearance of one of the group’s younger brother years earlier, stars Tom Cullen (‘Downton Abbey’), O-T Fagbenle (‘Looking’), Lee Ingleby (‘Inspector George Gently’) and Sarah Solemani (‘Bad Education’).

Cast and crew spent more than seven months in Liverpool during filming, which took place at various city-centre locations, including the interior of the Cunard Building, as well as the former Holly Lodge School site in West Derby.

Produced by RED Production Company, the multi BAFTA-award winning firm behind ‘Last Tango in Halifax’, ‘The Five’ shoot is said to have pumped an estimated £2 million into the Liverpool economy.

Nicola Shindler, executive producer and founder of RED Production Company, says: “Liverpool and its surrounding area provided the perfect backdrop to ‘The Five’.

“We needed a location that would give us a fictitious town and a diverse range of locations – from luxurious suburban homes to dark urban landscapes. The city became an important part of the tone and feel of the show and, logistically, was a great place to shoot.”

Liverpool benefited from movie and TV projects to the tune of £11.5m last year, with high-profile productions including ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, and ITV’s supernatural crime drama ‘Houdini and Doyle’ shooting in the city.
