Liverpool actress Pauline Daniels will direct and star in the Epstein Theatre’s first in-house production since it reopened its doors two years ago.

The actress and comedian will direct Waiting for Gateaux, a comedy about ‘the worst health and fitness club in the country’, at the Epstein Theatre from 22 April to 2 May. Pauline will also take on the lead role of Maureen in the play, which tells the story of the Mo-tivators fitness club as it is stranded by a snowstorm in a hall in the middle of nowhere.

Pauline says: “Waiting For Gateaux is a very exciting project and I’m thrilled to be directing and appearing in the very first in-house production at The Epstein Theatre. It is a wonderful gem of a place that offers all round entertainment for music, comedy and visiting theatre companies – but this is very special. I just know they will love this production because it will give them the chance to do what Scousers do best, laugh!”

Suzanne Collins, Lynn Francis and Andy Ford also star in the play, which was written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood.

Waiting for Gateaux could be the first of many in-house productions for the Epstein Theatre, says theatre manager Rebekah Pichilingi. She says: “After opening the doors again to the public in 2012, this beautiful Liverpool theatre has been working towards in-house producing and I really wanted our first to be a riotous comedy. We are working towards in-house productions becoming a regular highlight in the Epstein’s programme.”
