Grade II listed Wavertree Town Hall is set to be transformed into a new restaurant, bar and events space – almost 170 years after it was first built.

The South Liverpool building will become a 50-seat restaurant along with a 45 seat bar called Murphy’s Town Hall Tavern. It will also have two function suites capable of hosting 130 people each, after a ‘five figure’ investment in the historic building.

The building, which most recently ran as a pub, was built in 1847 and served as the headquarters of the Wavertree Local Board of Health.

Conor O’Donovan, manager of the project and chief executive of Sefton Park Hotel and O’Connor’s Bar & Grill says: “after securing a new venture in another great suburban setting, the team and I are extremely excited to bring something new to the area. Not only will the new venue serve a selection of comtemporary-classic dishes and beverages, the sheer scale of the property will also enable room hire facilities ideal for private parties such as weddings, birthdays and christenings, as well as corporate events.

“Having witnessed an increased demand for local venues that offer a more holistic approach, we feel that we will help to fill a gap in the market, and that the Town Hall will become a destination of choice for people across the city.”

The venue is set to open its doors to the public on 17 June.
