Proposals to build 66 affordable new homes in the Love Lane area of Liverpool have been revealed.

The Eldonian Community Based Housing Association (Eldonian CBHA) aims to deliver a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, ‘Live/work’ spaces and designated parking on a brownfield site which fronts onto Love Lane and backs onto the existing Eldonian Village housing.

According to a recently submitted planning application, the design of the apartments will bring together a mix of new and old, with modern spaces located next to existing Victorian railway structures, connecting old and new commercial activity and “celebrating the heritage” of the docklands area.

A document included with the application states that the project will provide “high-quality affordable housing for younger people and will tackle fuel poverty through low carbon and low energy design principles”.

The new £8 million scheme demonstrates the Eldonian’s commitment to supporting regeneration in North Liverpool and will act as a link to the new Ten Streets creative district.

Tony McGann, chair of the Eldonian CBHA, says: “This is an exciting scheme that’s been in the pipeline for some time and we can’t wait to take it a step closer to becoming a reality.

“We’re confident the  proposed development will not only meet the housing needs of the local  community but also offer opportunities to attract new people to the area.”

George Evans, chief executive of the Eldonian CBHA , adds: “The aim to turn a redundant piece of land into innovative and attractive homes for up to 168 new residents will see the Eldonians take their community-led approach to housing forward for future generations.

“We can see how this could be a great addition to the area, and we are pleased  to be working towards delivering much needed new affordable housing.”

Eldonian CBHA is a community-led, registered housing provider set up in 1983 to provide good quality, affordable housing for those in housing need. Eldonian CBHA currently manages 382 affordable homes within the Vauxhall area of Liverpool.
