A total of 1,500 new homes will be built in Liverpool and a further 1,000 brought back into use, after a partnership was signed to get the scheme underway.

An application for 22 new homes at the site of the former Watergate School in Woolton has been lodged and will be followed by £8m of refurbishments to Marwood Tower in Everton, 20 new homes at Leighton Dene Day Care Centre in Norris Green and 70 houses and apartments at the Grade II-listed Holly Lodge School in West Derby among other developments.

Liverpool City Council has announced an agreement with developer Redrow Homes, affordable housing provider Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) and property contractor Wilmott Dixon to build the homes in the city and has named a host of sites for the work to take place.

The first stage will see brownfield sites deliver 200 new and refurbished homes completed as part of a £205m, five-year scheme to add 2,500 homes to the city’s stock.

Mayor Joe Anderson says: “I am pleased we have signed a deal with two excellent housing partners, marking the start of a five year programme to deliver new and refurbished properties across the city, offering a greater range and quality of homes for our residents.

“This new partnership will play a major part in the on-going transformation of housing, and build on the fantastic momentum we’ve created in recent years. We are improving and extending the range of homes all over Liverpool, making the city more attractive as a place to live and generating additional revenue which we can use to support vital services.”
