Liverpool artists have begun painting 20 giant rubber ducks in unique designs for a Superlambanana-style treasure hunt around the city.

AquaDucked, which offers blank ducks for artists to create their own designs, plans to install the Duck Trail across the city in time for Light Night on 15 May 2015.

The ducks have been set up at Mann Island near the city’s waterfront, where they will be transformed before their public debut across the city to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support

The ducks will be decorated to celebrate Liverpool firsts including the first dock in the world, the first lifeboat station, the first purpose built football ground and the first cancer research centre. They will appear at iconic Liverpool landmarks including Everton FC and Liverpool FC’s football grounds, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Albert Dock, Liverpool ONE and Lime Street Station.

The AquaDucked website says: “We’ve created 20 larger than life ducks, and we’re letting them loose throughout the city of Liverpool. Our ducks have been themed on events in history that Liverpool was the first to achieve. So each of the ducks on our trail will represent one of these specific Liverpool firsts.”

The Duck Trail will be followed by the Liverpool Duck Race on 7 June for the International Mersey River Festival.
