A Liverpool businessman presented ‘Speedo Mick’ with a £3,000 cheque at the foot of Ben Nevis last Friday (20 December).

Gary Fredson, chief executive of Merseyside-based ESE Energy Group, and his colleague Rob Molloy, made the 14-hour round trip from Liverpool to give their support to Mick Cullen, who was 10 days into a mammoth 1,000 mile walk in aid of his charity ‘Leave the Light On’ – an organisation which helps people in Liverpool who are feeling lonely and isolated.

Walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End, as of last Friday, ‘Speedo Mick’ had already raised over £14,000.

The charity walk will finish in February after seven weeks on the road with Speedo Mick wearing nothing but a pair of ‘Speedos’ for the entire journey.

Mr Fredson reached out to Speedo Mick to offer his help after employees at ESE Energy in Hunts Cross noticed Mick’s fundraising challenge on social media.

Gary says: “Everyone at ESE has been impressed by Speedo Mick’s massively gruelling charity challenge.

“I have been in awe of his fundraising, especially the work he has done to raise money at Goodison Park over the years, but this must be his biggest challenge yet.

“His heroic efforts, walking for seven weeks in freezing winter conditions, really impressed all of us in the business. He deserves our support.

“He was thrilled when we turned up to meet him at Ben Nevis. I think we gave him a real boost. We’ve donated £3,000 and our team are collecting even more to help Speedo Mick. I think he was probably more impressed with the Everton FC flag we brought him though.

“In all seriousness, I hope we have gone some way to helping him reach his £50,000 target.”
