Detailed plans for a new residential development on green space near the Grade II-listed Turner Home in Dingle have been revealed.

The scheme from Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) includes 20 family homes, four apartments and a ‘wildlife garden’.

Initial proposals for a housing development on a former landfill site to the south of the Turner Home on Dingle Lane were awarded outline planning permission in February.

The new reserved matters application includes detailed information of the plans and images of how the scheme could look.

According to the planning application, the houses would be arranged in a terraced format, reflecting the current housing stock in the area, with private gardens to the rear.

The proposed scheme also includes new ‘wildlife garden’ to be used by the local community which will be in the tradition of what the application calls a “key park”.

The Turner Home on Dingle Lane was designed by the famous Liverpool architect Alfred Waterhouse and built between 1882 and 1885.

The home was conceived as a retirement residence for men and still operates as such today.

A document included with the application submitted to Liverpool City Council reads: “The proposed development is located as far as possible to the south of the field to effectively maximise the retained green space about the home itself.

“The proposed dwellings are modern in concept and it is envisaged they will be constructed of facing materials that harmonise and complement the nearby Alfred Stocks Court sheltered development and the Eric Fischer Wing dormitory extension annexed to the home.”

At the time of the application submission, the site is in the ownership of registered charity the Turner Home, however an agreement is in place for the land to be transferred to LHT in the “very near future”.
