Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and Royal & Derngate Northampton are co-producing the world premiere of Arthur Miller’s ‘The Hook’ to mark the centenary of his birth.
The Pulitzer prize-winning playwright will be remembered as the story of a close-knit community grappling with a world of crime and punishment comes alive.
The play tells the story of Marty Ferrara, a longshoreman who challenges the mobsters and gangs of ‘50s New York and takes a stand against corruption, and will be directed by Royal & Derngate’s artistic director, James Dacre.
Ahead of the play’s run at the Everyman from 1-25 July, James says: “The Hook is, I believe, a culmination of so much that formed Miller as a writer, written during one of the richest and most politicised periods in his career.”
The play also gives a nod to Liverpool, as the importance of community around the dockers is celebrated through an ensemble chorus drawn from Liverpool’s local communities.
