Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher and world champion boxer Natasha Jonas have officially opened the new summer season at the Watersports Centre in Queens Dock.

The pair unveiled a new £32,000 inflatable adventure attraction on behalf of Local Solutions, the major charity which runs the centre in order to make the city’s waterfront accessible to all.

The aqua park boasts 12 pieces of equipment, including a catapult swing, water trampolines, slides, monkey bars, a spinning rocket and big slides plus a see-saw and various climbing apparatus.

Celebrity chef Ellis Barrie and former boxer Paul Smith joined Jamie and Natasha as confetti cannons were set off and members of the Local Solutions senior leadership team and trustee board explained to guests why the Liverpool Watersports Centre is such an important part of the charity’s portfolio.

The new visitor attraction is now open and will be throughout the summer months with money from ticket sales invested back into Local Solutions in order for its charitable work across the Liverpool City Region and North Wales to continue.

Meanwhile, Local Solutions also unveiled a raft of new water sports activities including a wheely boat service for wheelchair users.

Tom Harrison, chief executive at Local Solutions, says: “We are passionate about using the centre to make watersports accessible for all and our brand new adventure attraction in Queen’s Dock is part of that aim.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming people and families throughout the summer season to the Watersports Centre and re-investing some of the money raised from ticket sales back into funding the life-changing work we do.

“Last year we welcomed almost 20,000 people to the centre, our vision is to attract even more.

“One of our goals is to make sure we are really reaching out and ensuring diversity and inclusivity across all of our services. Watersports is a great way of doing that. It’s an amazing asset and hits all of our outcome areas.

“It’s now time to make sure all the public and everybody across the city knows it’s totally open for business and there’s some really exciting stuff to do there.

“For that reason, I am very proud to have welcomed down the likes of Jamie Carragher and Natasha Jonas to show what this place is all about.”

Local Solutions is a major charity which has operated in Merseyside for almost 50 years, driven by a vision for society that sees all people living with dignity, leading fulfilled lives and reaching their full potential.

A major aspect of Local Solution’s support is provided through the not-for-profit Liverpool Watersports Centre, which the charity leases from the Canal & River Trust.
