Plans to create a ‘Garden Village’ development at Halsnead in South Whiston will be discussed at a Knowsley Council cabinet meeting today (4 January).
The proposed scheme would include new homes, a country park and a primary school as well as improvements to community and leisure facilities.
The local authority’s cabinet will discuss the possibility of holding a six-week public consultation so locals can have their say on the Garden Village masterplan.
Councillor Graham Morgan, Knowsley’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development says: “This development is the biggest change that Knowsley will see in the next 15 years. It is part of the council’s ambitious plans for growth across the borough. I am delighted that Halsnead is receiving the national recognition that it deserves.
“Over the past few months, the council has been preparing the exciting new draft masterplan based upon Garden Village principles, which will help to guide development in the area, with a focus on the sites natural and historical assets.”
The Halsnead development is expected to receive additional funding of up to £200,000 after gaining Garden Village status, in addition to a possible £17 million of SIF funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
The scheme is one of 14 Garden Villages proposed under government plans to build an additional 48,000 homes across the country.
