Dancers from the Junior Academy at Liverpool Theatre School are preparing to put their best feet forward after being invited to compete against the country’s most talented performers at the ‘Can You Dance? Masterclass Games’.

The prestigious event, which is set to take place at ACC Liverpool this weekend (29 May), is the biggest dance masterclass competition in the UK.

The promising young performers are set to showcase their talent as they compete against hundreds of dancers to win gold, silver or bronze medals. The aim of the competition is to top the medal table and be crowned the UK Masterclass Games Champion.

During the event, the dancers will be invited to take part in a series of masterclasses with high profile industry professionals who have worked alongside celebrities like Rihanna, Beyonce and Janet Jackson. There will also be sessions with West End stars who have appeared in shows such as Cats, Grease, Wicked and Hamilton.

Maxine Ellis, Liverpool Theatre School principal, says: “Our Junior Academy dancers are really looking forward to taking part in the event, it looks set to be a great day with some brilliant masterclasses on the lineup.

“We have some exceptional talent at our Junior Academy and this is a fantastic opportunity for our dance students to show just what they can do on a national level. They have all been working very hard to prepare for the competition and I am confident they will do us proud.”

Aurelia Coote, 10, who trains at Liverpool Theatre School Junior Academy, adds: “We’re all so excited about the ‘Can You Dance? Masterclass Games’, it’s not every day you get to compete against some of the best dancers in the country. It was really hard during the pandemic when performances and dance competitions were put on hold so it’s amazing to be back out there again doing what we love best.”

Liverpool Theatre School Junior Academy provides dance and musical theatre training for young performers from the age of four to 16. Many performers attending the academy go on to audition for full-time professional training at Liverpool Theatre School, which offers industry recognised Trinity and BTEC qualifications in dance and musical theatre.
