Liverpool is the best UK port for cruise ship passengers for the second year in a row, according to the world’s largest cruise review website, Trip Advisor-owned Cruise Centric.

The website has named Liverpool as the Best UK Port of Call because of its tourist attractions, welcoming culture and historic architecture, according to an international panel of cruise journalists.

According to the editors of Cruise Centric: “Much of what Liverpool has to offer cruise-ship visitors is right in the city centre, alongside the waterfront where ships dock. The revitalised Albert Dock houses numerous restaurants and attractions – like the Beatles Story museum – and the adjacent billion-pound Liverpool One retail park is the UK’s largest open-air retail complex.”

Liverpool welcomed 56,000 passengers aboard 46 ships to the city in 2014, bringing £4.4 million to the local economy. Liverpool’s Cruise Manager, Angie Redhead, says: “Our cruise guests continually tell us that they love our city centre location, our award winning attractions as well as the genuine friendliness and warmth of the Liverpool people who go out of their way to extend the hand of friendship to them.

“Consumer reviews are so well trusted and are such an essential promotional tool, that to have the stamp of approval from Cruise Critics for two years running is just marvellous and so very important in such a competitive industry.”

The city will welcome the three largest Cunard ships, named the Three Queens, as part of its River Festival celebrations. The Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria will be on the river between 24-26 May in the first part of the city’s celebrations, that will also see Wayne Hemingway take on the role of creative director to mark the 75th anniversary of the first Liverpool to New York cruise crossing.
