Holidaymakers will no longer be able to fly from Merseyside to New York City via Ireland as Aer Lingus has cancelled its Liverpool-Dublin route.
The airline is discontinuing flights between Dublin and John Lennon Airport from January 2017, meaning passengers will not be able to interline at the Irish capital onto the Big Apple.
Journeys between Liverpool and Dublin will continue via Ryanair, which is operating four departures per day from John Lennon.
John Lennon Airport has revealed that Ryanair is hoping to strike up a deal with Aer Lingus to restore the option to interline from Dublin onto long-haul destinations in the future.
A spokesperson says: “We hear that Ryanair are actually looking at a deal with Aer Lingus so that passengers can interline between the airlines that would bring this connection back, so hopefully we may see this return – but no timescales given as yet.”
Ryanair has launched a ‘rescue fares’ promotion, allowing anyone affected by the cancellation of the Liverpool-Dublin route to fly to the Irish capital at a reduced rate between January and March next year, providing they book before midnight on 2 November.
