Liverpool’s city centre triathlon event, Tri Liverpool has sold out of standard distance entries in record time.
More than 1,000 places for the distance, billed as the ‘longest and toughest’ course at Tri Liverpool, have been snapped up.
The standard course contains a gruelling 1500m swim followed by a 40km bike ride and ending with a 10km run.
Participants will swim, cycle and run past some of Liverpool’s most famous landmarks including Albert Dock and Pier Head during the August contest.
Jack Buckner, CEO of British Triathlon, says: “The popularity of the triathlon in Liverpool continues to build year on year.
“We are estimating the whole event to sell out well ahead of the entry deadline in July.”
Anyone still interested in entering Tri Liverpool can do so via the remaining distance categories which include the sprint distance which features a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run or the specially created GO TRI+ beginner course which entails a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run.
Liverpool City Council is currently offering entrants the chance to get race ready ahead of the event with its 10 GO TRI training sessions per week which take place at Lifestyles Centres in Garston, Ellergreen, Peter Lloyd and Wavertree Aquatics Centre.
Wendy Simon, cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, says: “Tri Liverpool is one of the most popular events in the British Triathlon race calendar and an exhilarating sporting day out for competitors and spectators alike.
“The triathlon community comes together in Liverpool from world-class elite athletes to home-grown beginners in a very inclusive, friendly and supportive atmosphere.
“With the standard distance already full with over four months to go, we are definitely on track to make 2016 the best Tri Liverpool yet.”
