Merseyside housing associations are preparing to walk, cycle and run in support of a nationwide campaign for change.
On 11 March local organisations will join the Relay to the Rally as it travels to Westminster, where national alliance Homes for Britain will rally for the next government to come up with a long-term plan during its first year to tackle the housing crisis within a generation. According to Homes for Britain “housing demand vastly outstrips supply both at a national and local level”.
Liverpool Housing Trust, Riverside, Liverpool Mutual Homes, South Liverpool Homes, Knowsley Housing Trust, Helena Housing, One Vision Housing, Plus Dane and Pierhead Housing will be among those taking part in a two-day challenge during the North West leg of the relay.
The first day will see participants walk and run 21 miles from Liverpool’s Cunard Building to Warrington, followed by a journey from Runcorn to Congleton the next day where they will pass the baton onto colleagues to continue the relay.
Meanwhile other participants will spend the first day cycling from Southport to Bootle before travelling to Congleton the next day to pass the baton to cyclists continuing to London.
Carol Matthews, chief executive at Riverside, says: “We are joining forces with organisations from every corner of the housing world who believe everyone has a right to a decent affordable home to call their own.
“We stand united to call on all political parties to take bold action and end the housing crisis within a generation.”
