New social housing could be built in Toxteth under plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

An applicant named as The Flanagan Group has revealed proposals to construct an additional 14 affordable homes on a vacant plot of land on Park Street.

The new buildings will draw influence from the surrounding properties, which are predominantly two to three-storey continuous terracing and semi-detached units, and lie within close proximity to Toxteth Community Centre and Park Road shopping centre.

A statement issued to the council’s planning department reads: “The proposed development has been designed to take into account the relevant urban grain of the surrounding area, massing and use of materials.

“The pattern of arrangement and the size of the surrounding buildings and their junctions influenced the final design outcome of this project.”

The proposed housing development is also within walking distance of the Fire Fit Leisure Complex, Toxteth Library, Princes Park, Liverpool city centre and the city’s waterfront.

The planning application states that the new homes have been pitched with families in mind, and will benefit the Toxteth area by helping it meet “a shortfall in the available supply of affordable housing as compared with local need”.
