Plans for Liverpool go kart venue announced

The largest indoor go karting company in the UK is planning to open a new track a short distance from Liverpool city centre.

Go Karting for Fun, which is owned by Team Sport, wants to open a new go kart track at the North Harrington Building on Brunswick Industrial Estate and has lodged an application with Liverpool City Council.

The plan includes a new track that can host 16 go karts at once, a viewing area, bar and snack area. The venue will also boast conference areas and aims to appeal to business and corporate events during week days. Open seven days a week between 9am and 11pm, the track will employ six to eight full time staff and up to 30 part-time employees.

The venue will also host charity events and youth projects through partnerships with local schools, according to the application.

Team Sport, which operates 12 tracks in the UK including a venue in Warrington, says expansion has been made possible by ‘renewed interest in Formula One’. It originally submitted plans late in 2014 but has resubmitted them after issues with the building’s tenancy.

The building has been empty for seven years during which it has been marketed as an industrial property or warehouse. However, the application says: “There are exceptional circumstances, i.e. the unique operational characteristics of indoor go-karting centres, which necessitate that sites such as this, within industrial estates, provide the only location where such uses can be accommodated.”
