A host of special guests have been revealed for a concert marking the end of Liverpool’s ‘About the Young Idea’ exhibition, a retrospective showcase dedicated to The Jam.
Presenter Janice Long will host A Celebration of The Jam at the Echo Arena, where the band’s bassist Bruce Foxton will perform alongside a star-studded line-up.
The bill includes Paul Weller’s backing band The Songbook Collective – which features Steve Cradock from Ocean Colour Scene – a Jam covers set by The Farm, Badly Drawn Boy, Mani from The Stone Roses and Haircut One Hundred’s Nick Heyward.
There will also be performances by Big Country drummer Mark Brzezicki, Amsterdam frontman Ian Prowse, former vocalist and guitarist from The La’s and Cast Barry Sutton, Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley and Chris Griffiths from The Real People.
The gig will take place on 5 October, with tickets priced at £45, and more acts will be announced before then.
Concert organiser Nicky Weller, sister of Jam frontman Paul and co-curator of ‘About the Young Idea’, says: “There is a real buzz around the gig and we’ve had a great reaction from artists who want to be part of this special concert.
“We’re so pleased with how the exhibition has been received in Liverpool, and this concert very much feels like us giving something back to the fans. It will be a great night packed full of hits from The Jam which is sure to be a crowd pleaser.”
‘About the Young Idea’ runs at the Cunard Building until 6 October. Tickets are priced at £9.50, with discounts available at off-peak times.
