As a city with strong Irish heritage, St Patrick’s Day 2015 in Liverpool on 17 March promises to be a huge event for the city. With St Patrick’s Day-themed pubs, marching bands and plenty of traditional Irish celebrations, here’s what you can do to celebrate the day.

Irish dance performance at Museum of Liverpool

15 March

The George Ferguson School of Irish Dance performs in the run up to Saint Patrick’s Day 2015. The free performance takes place between 2pm to 4pm and there is no need to book – just turn up on the day!

17 March

The Liverpool Irish Flute Band will hold its traditional march through Liverpool on 17 March, as it makes its way through Vauxhall and Holy Cross and on to the city centre. The parade starts at 1.30pm and the band are hoping people will don their best green attire and join them in the annual march.

Nathan Carter at the Floral Pavilion

17 March

Put down that Guinness and head over to the Floval Pavilion in New Brighton to see Nathan Carter, a Liverpool-born country music singer with Irish roots, perform with his band. Featuring support from The Haley Sisters, Nathan will play some of his best-known hits from his five studio albums.

St Patrick’s Day Ball at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel

18 March

The University of Liverpool’s Institute for Irish Studies’ annual Irish Ball includes an Irish show band, traditional Irish music and step dancing and a disco. It begins at 7pm and tickets are £50.

St George’s Hall Irish Ceilidh

20 March

The spectacular surroundings of Grade I-listed St George’s Hall provides the backdrop for a traditional Irish Ceilidh dance on 20 March. Enjoy a bar (with Irish whiskies), Irish Stew and traditional Irish music for this lively dance event. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £10 plus handling fee of £2.25.

Irish Ceili dance classes

Every Wednesday until 25 March

Fresh from Chinese New Year celebrations, Liverpool dance group Movema is holding traditional Irish Ceili dance classes with a modern twist every 6-7pm at its base in Water Street in the city centre. A chance to get fit and have some fun, there is also the opportunity to perform in a public dance event to mark St Patrick’s Day in the city centre. For more information visit www.movema.co.uk.
