The Homeless Games set to return in 2017

A sports competition which gives Liverpool’s homeless the chance to be a sportsperson for a day is set to return.

The Homeless Games will take place at Wavertree Sports Centre next April featuring a range of disciplines including football, swimming, cycling and running.

The games, which were founded in 2009, aim to bring together those who have experienced homeless or social exclusion, in an attempt to provide a platform which lifts their spirits through sport and companionship.

According to organisers Eric Houghton and Steve Barton: “The Homeless Games alone cannot make the difference. It is only through working together that we can change lives.

“We need everybody to play their part, whether you’re a support worker who can champion The Homeless Games within your organisation or an organisation which can support the day.”

Organised in partnership with Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool-based Healthy Food Online, the games will also offer participants and the general public advice on health, education and employment.
