Three more years for events at Newsham Park Hospital?

Events at the historic former Newsham Park Hospital could be set to continue for another three years under new plans submitted to the council.

Weddings and ghost themed evenings have been held at the Grade II-listed building since it was first opened to the public in 2013.

The application from site developer Landecology Ltd points to the success it has had attracting television companies to film ghost hunts at the venue adding, “the building is at the top of any investigators chart and is visited every week by numerous paranormal groups”.

Foyle’s War (ITV), Hollyoaks (Channel Four) and Don’t Tell the Bride (BBC) have all been filmed at the former hospital alongside numerous adverts and music videos.

A number of music festivals organised by The Cream Group have also taken place in the building’s courtyard including The Asylum event last Easter.

Alongside extending the licence to operate events, the developer aims to undertake a period of refurbishments to the inside of the building as well as bringing the gardens back to life.

The planning document says that the operator hopes to “provide the community and the city with an historical event venue adjacent to one of the city’s oldest public parks”.
