Lead contractor on the £25 million project to regenerate the former Walton Hospital site has gone into administration.

Stockport-based Harbur Construction started work on the 195 homes scheme last February.

Harbur had been sub-contracted the job by Mulbury Homes, which is in charge of the project on behalf of Riverside. Mulbury has now taken over the construction work.

The housing element of the mixed-use scheme, which also includes an Aldi supermarket, was originally due to be finished by the end of 2017.

Mark Patchitt, Riverside’s director of development and growth, says: “We are very sorry to hear that Harbur Construction has gone in to administration.

“Mulbury has now taken over work on the project and at this stage it is difficult to determine whether there will be a delay on completion.

“We are working closely with Mulbury and our quality control team to ensure the highest standard of construction is maintained through to completion and will keep our customers updated.”

Famous for being the birthplace of Sir Paul McCartney, Walton Hospital was demolished in 2011 and its services moved to Fazakerley.
