Wetherspoon announces opening date at former Head of Steam

The Head of Steam pub near Liverpool Lime Street station will reopen as a Wetherspoon venue on 7 July.

The pub in the Grade II-listed building will be renamed as The North Western and will include a terraced beer garden, according to the company. The terrace will be accessed from a mezzanine floor in the building, which will be installed to add more space to the ground floor bar.

Once it is open, The North Western will be the fifth pub owned by Wetherspoon owner JDW within half a mile. It will join The Fall Well, The Richard John Blackler, The Lime Kiln and The Welkin in the area.

According a planning application submitted earlier this year: “The proposal is to regenerate the building into a Public House to JDW requirements. There will be a day time and night time economy created and accent on the family orientation of this regenerated establishment.”

The pub will offer similar food and drink options to other Wetherspoon pubs, including offers on steak, curry and other meals depending on the day of the week and a selection of cask ales.

Wetherspoon bought the Head of Steam, which opened in 2000, late last year. The upper floors of the building were formerly the North Western Hotel but are now used as student accommodation.
