Closing Lantern aims to stay in Baltic Triangle

Popular fringe venue, the Lantern Theatre plans to stay in the Baltic Triangle following the sale of its building.

In a statement issued yesterday (28 April), the Lantern announced it will be closing its doors on 31 July 2016 following its fifth annual Shiny New Festival.

It is not known at this stage who has purchased the Blundell Street building.

Siobhan Noble, co-owner and marketing manager of the Lantern Theatre, says: “We’re sad to be leaving Blundell Street but we are taking as many positives from it as possible.

“Moving forward we are looking for a venue that will cater for the needs of our customers in the best way possible.”

Siobhan confirmed that the Lantern would be aiming to retain its position in the Baltic Triangle – staying part of the community which has been key to area’s success since its inception.

The venue hosts a mixture of theatre, comedy and live music with a 75-seat audience capacity.

Earlier this year the Lantern acted as the hub for a number of performance events which took place during the sixth annual Threshold Festival.
