Liverpool City Council will open applications to sell more homes for £1 at the end of June, after a successful pilot of the scheme.

Over 150 properties including two and three-bedroom houses in Garrick Street, Bird Street, Richardson Street and Webster Road – all near Smithdown Road – will be sold for £1 to buyers who meet certain criteria under the Homes for a Pound Plus initiative.

From the end of June 2015, buyers will be able to apply for the homes if they live or work within the Liverpool City Council boundary, are in paid employment and are a first time buyer.

Buyers will have to live in the property for a minimum of five years, must refurbish it to a ‘Decent Homes Standard’ and comply with the agreed schedule of works to be eligible.

The Homes for a Pound initiative saw 20 homes in Granby Four Streets and Arnside Road brought back to life by buyers who had paid just £1 to buy them, along with a commitment to spend a further £30,000 on renovations.

Liverpool City Council has not confirmed an exact date for applications but says it will open at the end of June. Interested buyers have been advised to check the council’s website at www.liverpool.gov.uk
