Great Homer Street’s new link road ready to open

The regeneration of Great Homer Street in North Liverpool will move a step closer today (20 December) when a new link road opens to the public.

The new connection will be called Jennifer Avenue and serve as the main access to the Sainsbury’s supermarket, McDonald’s restaurant and district centre which are under construction.

Jennifer Avenue is part of St. Modwen’s £150 million ‘Project Jennifer’ scheme at Great Homer Street, which is being delivered in partnership with Liverpool City Council.

A naming ceremony for the link road was recently held with assistant mayor Councillor Nick Small, Bishop Tom Williams, stakeholders, St. Modwen representatives and Jennifer Sutton – whom the project and road are named after – in attendance.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson, says: “Project Jennifer is a vital piece of the regeneration jigsaw in North Liverpool and it’s a hugely symbolic moment for the scheme that Jennifer Way is opening.

“It’s great to see progress being made so swiftly as the investment, jobs and new homes will breathe much needed new life into the community and will also act as a vital catalyst in the economic development of the wider area.”

Jennifer Avenue will open to the public at 10am today, with the Sainsbury’s and district centre due for completion by May 2017.
