High bidding brings ‘confident’ 2015 start for Sutton Kersh auctions

Merseyside auctioneer Sutton Kersh sold 75% of the lots offered at its first auction of 2015, generating proceeds in excess of £4.6 million.

The February sale at the Marriott Hotel in Liverpool attracted a large attendance including investors, owner occupiers and developers.

Competitive bidding is said to have helped a number of lots exceed their advertised guide prices during the event, of which the main highlight was a residential investment within the city’s Georgian Quarter.

The Huskisson Street property is currently arranged as five self-contained apartments, producing an annual rental income of £27,000. It finally went under the hammer for £374,000 to an investor in the room who fought off two determined telephone bidders, exceeding the original guide price of £300,000 plus.

Meanwhile, a vacant three-bedroom mid-terrace house on Ling Street in L7 sold for £64,000, a figure well above the advertised guide of between £40,000 and £45,000.

Elsewhere a three-bedroom mid-terrace on Hornby Boulevard in L21, offered on behalf of a housing association at a guide price of £30,000 plus, achieved £43,500.

An extended vacant four-bedroom detached property on Queens Drive in Wavertree also attracted more than its guide price of £165,000 plus, selling for £175,000.

The event was the firm’s first opportunity to publically unveil its new joint heads of auctions, Cathy Holt and Tony Webber.  Cathy has been with Sutton Kersh for seven years and was promoted internally from auction manageress, and Tony has joined from Eddisons where he worked for 20 years.

Cathy says: “I am delighted to welcome Tony to the auction department and know his experience and knowledge will be of tremendous value to both the rest of the team and our clients.

“The result of the February auction has given us an excellent start to our 2015 campaign and reinforces our view that for many people property remains a key investment vehicle. We look forward to the remaining six auctions with real confidence.”

Sutton Kersh is now inviting instructions for its next auction on Thursday 16 April. The final date for entries is 20 March.
