THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME, gyms have reopened! The big question is, are you going to rush back to get on that treadmill or smash a PB on the squat rack? Or have you discovered a newly found love for home workouts and outdoor training?
Initially I was probably with the majority of people and couldn’t wait for gyms to reopen so I could get back into my old routine. But to be honest, that feeling quickly faded as I was loving lockdown life and having the time to actually train properly whilst learning to adapt to new situations.
I’m enjoying the change in my training routine and also the time I’m saving going to and from the gym – along with the ease of jumping into the garden or living room for a good workout.
I was actually shocked to hear how many of my clients felt the same and have enjoyed training via FaceTime or Zoom and want to keep this up for the foreseeable future.
So if you’re like me and happy staying safe at home but feel you only have minimal equipment, here is a very effective HIIT workout using nothing but a kettlebell which will take around 30 minutes.
If you don’t have a kettlebell you could also do this with one or two dumbbells depending on the weight.
First get yourself warmed up:
- Bodyweight squats (10x)
- Squat jumps (10x)
- Burpees (10x)
Repeat 3 times
Then, straight into the below:
- Kettlebell swings (15x)
- Squat upright row (15x)
- Deep squats (hold weight on chest) (15x)
- Squat and press (15x)
- Alternate lunges (hold weight on chest) (16x)
- Squat jumps (25x)
- Chest to floor burpees (10x)
- One minute plank
Repeat this 6-8 times with a one minute rest in between each round.
Some people think they have to be in a gym to get in a good workout, but why do you? Try doing this two to three times a week and believe me you will feel incredible after just a fortnight.
Don’t feel pressured to jump straight back into your old routine, do what’s right for you but also don’t think you can’t train properly from the comfort of your own home. Now is the time to start if you haven’t already.
Remember you’ll never regret any workout – so get it done and enjoy it!
