SO WE BLINKED AND BEFORE WE KNEW IT January is upon us. The most popular time of the year where people want to get fit and become a healthier, more active version of themselves.
Here are seven easy kick-start methods to get you going…
BIN THE JUNK
Yes, you heard me right! Get rid of all those goodies that are too irresistible to resist. Eliminate temptation. Fill your fridge and cupboards with healthier options.
Go to the shops and get excited about how the new you is going to feel in a few weeks just by cutting out the excess amount of carbs or sugary snacks.
You’ll feel more alert, more energised, and a lot less bloated in a matter of days.
TREAT YOURSELF TO NEW WORKOUT GEAR
It doesn’t have to be expensive. Make the most of the sales. When you feel and look the part it’s easier to get motivated and start training.
GRAB A FRIEND
It’s not easy getting back into exercise, especially when it’s so dark and cold outside. Make a pact with a friend to encourage each other when one of you is feeling less motivated.
Go on walks/runs, exercise classes or the gym together. Set days and times so you can’t keep putting it off.
GET THE HYDRATION LEVELS BACK UP
We’ve all neglected our bodies slightly over the festive period. The most common way being we haven’t drank enough water or ate enough nutritious foods.
Start each day with hot water and slice of lemon followed by a bowl of fruit. It’s easy to forget to drink water when it’s so cold.
Make it easier for yourself and swap the teas and coffees for green tea or simply hot water.
SET YOURSELF A CHALLENGE
Try 21 days of clean eating. Take pictures of yourself before and after and be proud of your achievements.
You’ll be shocked to see the change you can make in such little time, but make sure you take those first pictures – no one has to see them but they’re great to see how far you have come.
HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO
Whether it be a holiday, a weekend away or a night off – book something and make that your aim. Say to yourself ‘this is when I want to feel amazing by’ and then make it happen!
BE REALISTIC
The weight didn’t creep on overnight so it won’t go that quickly either. But don’t be too hard on yourself! Take January for what it is and get yourself back on track.
Listen to your body. Don’t do so much the first week that you never want to ever set foot back in a gym again! Take it slow and enjoy the process – don’t make it a punishment.
