A student accommodation scheme in Liverpool city centre is in the running for a top accolade at this year’s Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North West Annual Awards.

Vita Student’s £15 million redevelopment of three Liverpool buildings in to student accommodation has been nominated in the Large Project category alongside other regional projects ahead of tomorrow’s event (26 February).

Located on the corner of Crosshall Street and Victoria Street, the Vita Student scheme brought  three buildings back into use from serious disrepair and converted them in to 357 luxury student studios.

Knowsley’s Greystone Footbridge and Liverpool City Council’s £3.5m Leeds Street regeneration are also along the nominees in the Medium Project category at the awards, which will this year be presented during a dinner and ceremony at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle.

North West projects will be recognised across seven categories on the night, with other awards including Small Project, Community Project, Heritage Award and Volunteer Award.

Ahead of the North West ceremony Darrell Matthews, North West regional director of the Institution of Civil Engineers, says: “These awards highlight the achievements of civil engineers in shaping our world and making people’s everyday lives better, and Merseyside’s nominations between them show some of the diversity of civil engineering.”
