Wellbeing photography competition launched

Budding photographers are being called to showcase their shots in a Knowsley competition as it returns for the second year.

Entries are now open for the wellbeing-themed Spaces 2 initiative, and people living, working, volunteering and studying in the area can put their pictures forward.

Last year hundreds of images were submitted for the competition, which is now calling on entrants to take a compelling picture of somewhere in Knowsley which makes them feel relaxed or holds happy memories.

Submissions can also focus on a person, such as a ‘selfie’ or a picture of someone who the photographer admires.

Following the launch of Spaces 2, a series of free July photography workshops will get underway tomorrow (Wednesday 13 July) to help over 16s taking part sharpen their skills.

The 1-4pm sessions, which will also be held on 14, 20 and 21 July, will be held at Kirkby Gallery within Kirkby Centre, Newtown Gardens.

Councillor Eddie Connor, Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for public health, wellbeing and customer services, says: “You don’t need to be a professional photographer to take part – we had some amazing photographs submitted last year that were simply snapped on a mobile phone.

“The key is to give some thought as to what or who you want to photograph – it has to be somebody or somewhere that really means something to you.”

Entries will be featured in an online gallery on the Knowsley Galleries and Museum Facebook page and will form part of the Panorama exhibition at Kirkby Gallery in November.

The deadline for Space 2 entries is 16 September.

For more information on how to enter the competition or to book a place on the workshops call Tina Ball on 0151 443 5617.
