Exchange Flags to become summer open-air theatre

Exchange Flags will be transformed into an open-air theatre in the summer, as a host of plays and community events take over the historic city centre square.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company will bring four open-air shows to the commercial district space, beginning with Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice on Saturday 8 August followed by Sherlock Holmes on 15 August, The Jungle Book on 22 August and Jane Eyre on 5 September.

The theatre productions will make use of the cobbled outdoor venue and guests are advised to bring their own rugs and blankets to watch the shows. Pride and Prejudice will include an open-air picnic and children who want to see the The Jungle Book are encouraged to dress as their favourite jungle characters.

The space at Exchange Flags includes a balcony and roof terrace, as new owner Capital Properties plans to host a series of summer community events in the square including arts, music and food events.

Exchange Flags will also welcome new restaurant, Vincent Café and Cocktail Bar in the former Sakura site. The new restaurant follows the success of the Vincent Hotel and restaurant in Southport and will join Fazenda, Gourmet Coffee, Philpotts and The Juicery at Exchange Flags.
