Over 80 restaurants in Liverpool have signed up for Global Scouse Day on 28 February, as well as three from as far away as USA.

Organisers of the day, which celebrates the area’s signature dish, say it will be the biggest ever with support from Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs, Virgin Trains and bars and restaurants from across the city. Cocktail competitions, ‘scouse offs’ and scouse samples will be taking place across the city, with many cafes signing up to donate £1 from every bowl sold to the Whitechapel Centre, which helps the city’s homeless.

Laura Worthington, who has organised many of the Global Scouse Day events, says: “Last year we had 50 restaurants but we’re hoping for a lot more this year.

“Scouse used to be a dish that people would gather round and eat and it used to be a community thing. That’s what we’re aiming for. This year it’s really going to have a lot more presence in the city, which is fantastic.”
