A North West-based property company has funded the purchase of a potentially life-saving ultrasound machine at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Fortis Developments, which has a number of student accommodation projects in Liverpool, donated £26,000 for the equipment which allows anaesthetists to deliver vital drugs and monitor heart function.
The machine will also aid anaesthetists in providing safer and more effective pain relief for thousands of children every year.
Darren McClellan, director at Fortis Developments who comes from Liverpool, says: “The purchase of the ultrasound machine was a way to support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital’s amazing work and help the young patients in their care.
“We see this as the start of a longer-term relationship between Fortis and Alder Hey and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
Dr Steve Roberts, a lead anaesthetist at the hospital, adds: “Anaesthetists are required to perform invasive and complicated procedures. Traditionally these were performed ‘by feel’, but the relatively recent application of ultrasound has made a huge difference.
“Being able to see under the skin of the patient, we can now avoid many potentially life-threatening complications and improve pain control.”
Fortis has also funded the purchase of a £13,000 dialysis machine for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
