Seven Knowsley sites released for housing development

Housing developers are being sought for seven new residential land plots in Knowsley, it has been announced.

During a presentation at the MIPIM UK property conference and exhibition in London yesterday, delegates promoting Knowsley declared the bidding process open to developers.

A mix of large and small-scale council-owned plots on Roughwood Drive, Kirkby; Rockford Avenue, Kirkby; Bewley Drive, Kirkby; Waterpark Drive, Stockbridge Village; Western Avenue, Huyton; Whiston Lane, Huyton; and Scotchbarn Lane, Prescot are said to have been primed for development by the local authority as it looks to create new homes under its Local Plan.

With a 22 January 2016 closing date for developer bids, the seven sites will form the first of two phases to release 12 new plots in total with an overall capacity for 1,500 new homes. A further five sites across Kirkby, Stockbridge Village and Huyton will be released next year.

Addressing members of the property industry John Flaherty, executive director of place at Knowsley Council, was joined by Edward Perry, operations director of Knowsley Hall & Safari Park and chair of the Knowsley Place Board and Philip Whitehead, regional director of Countryside Properties which has already been working with the council on schemes.

John said: “We’re determined to bring forward a quality housing offer to residents and a range of offerings to bring new residents to Knowsley and support our growth ambitions.”

Suggesting Knowsley’s offer as a place and its close proximity to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire makes it an attractive destination, Edward added: “With the current demand in the market, homebuyers seem to be agreeing that it’s a place where people want to live.”
