St Luke’s Church will host indoor events for the first time since World War Two when a transparent marquee is erected in the grounds in April.

The group of volunteers that hold events in the church, often referred to as the Bombed Out Church, has announced the plans today. Posting the news on the group’s Facebook page, it says the “unique” marquee will allow events to be held without taking away from the open air feel of the church.

It says: “One of the beauties of the space is the fact there is no roof and the view just looking up is remarkable and we would never want to lose that! This being said we are excited to show everyone that if it’s needed a few phone calls and a bit of careful planning and this amazing space can do anything!”

The group says events between the 17 and 26 April will be of “of great artistic and cultural diversity” and says the events will be announced in the coming weeks.

Last month, the Community Interest Company (CIC) told Your Move it planned to continue to host events at the church while a £150,000 grant from English Heritage and Liverpool City Council is used to repair weather damage and make the church safe.
