First acts announced for Africa Oyé 2015

British soul legend Omar will headline Africa Oyé 2015 in Liverpool’s Sefton Park.

The singer, who broke through in 1991 and has performed with a host of musical legends including Stevie Wonder, will headline the 23rd annual festival celebrating African music.

Omar is joined by Malian stars BKO Quintet and Reunion Island’s Lindigo on the Africa Oyé stage in June, as the festival hopes to attract more than 80,000 people to Sefton Park for the 2015 event.

Artistic Director, Paul Duhaney, says: “Last year was a really special Oyé, there’s no doubt about that. I’m really looking forward to revealing the rest of our line-up for 2015 and proving that we can follow it with another spectacular festival”

The Africa Oyé festival will be accompanied once again by the Oye Village, featuring food from around the world, traders, DJs, dance classes and workshops.

Africa Oyé 2015 takes place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June 2015 between 12.30pm and 9.30pm both days, and admission is free.
