Street dancing, live music, comedy and theatre performances have been announced for the first ever Liverpool Loves festival on 8 August.

The festival, which aims to celebrate Liverpool businesses between 6 – 8 August, has announced a culture day on the Saturday of the event, with 12 hours of food, music, dance and performance at the city’s world famous waterfront.

Organiser, Orb CIC, will host a Liverpool Loves Music stage with local musicians including Stephen Langstaff, Chelcee Grimes, Satin Belge and Shamanarchy for a free music festival. Meanwhile, a ‘World in One City’ attraction will host dance and music from Chinese, Indian, Arabic and African groups.

The festival includes comedy programme from Liverpool Comedy Festival, pop-up performances from Oh Yes Street Theatre Company, street art by Zap Graffiti and a market from Capstan’s Bazaar, who most recently appeared at Constellations as part of the annual Threshold Festival.

The Reader’s Organisation will be hosting book and poetry readings from local authors as part of the celebration. The festival will end with a mass singalong of hits from The Beatles with the help of the Rock and Roll Choir and Liverpool Community Choir.

Festival director, Josh Boyd from Orb CIC says: “We are extremely excited to release the first stage of announcements for festival day of Liverpool Loves. We’re programming in loads of dynamic artists and performances to bring together an authentic experience of everything that we all love about Liverpool – music, the arts, comedy and theatre – and the various zones will do just that.

“People can expect an interesting and vibrant site to meander through, giving a fantastic festival atmosphere. We are creating a new kind of event for the city, and it will be something very different to what people have seen before – our own mini-version of Glastonbury at the very heart of the waterfront.”

Liverpool Loves takes place 6 – 8 August 2015 and the culture day takes place between 10am and 10pm on 8 August.
